The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one various events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 early opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
