Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
